The Muskegon Heights football team collected its first victory of the season with a 39-20 non-conference win over visiting Detroit Community on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers led 21-0 after the first quarter.
Their first score came on a 60-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Montae Townsend to Anthony Glover.
Jhari Blackshire capped Muskegon Heights’ second drive by catching a 27-yard TD pass from Townsend. The score came on a crucial third-and-15.
Townsend put the Tigers up 21-0 on a two-yard touchdown burst, after Todd Brewer set up the score with a 40-yard run.

The Tigers led 21-8 at halftime and took a 27-8 lead early in the third quarter when Brewer broke loose for a 40-yard touchdown run.
Jerry Anderson put Muskegon Heights up 33-8 with a 33-yard TD run to cap off third quarter scoring. Detroit Community answered with two touchdowns to make it 33-20.
The Tigers’ Arlester Sims caught a 25-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter to round out the Tigers’ scoring.
Muskegon Heights amassed 412 total yards, with 262 on the ground on 33 rushing attempts. Anderson led the Tigers ground attack with 91 yards rushing on 10 attempts while Brewer finished with 89 yards on three carries.
Townsend was 7 of 10 passing for 150 yards and had three touchdown throws. Blackshire also helped the Tigers air attack with 51 yards on two catches.
Defensively, Muskegon Heights held Detroit to just 138 total yards. Braxton Grisham led Heights tacklers with 11 and Blackshire had nine.
