The Fruitport soccer team’s season came to a tough end on Thursday with a 2-1 overtime shootout loss to Coopersville in a Division 2 district semifinal game.

Coopersville led 1-0 at halftime, then Fruitport’s Zack Shane tied the score with a goal on a penalty kick in the second half.

The teams played two scoreless 10 minute overtime periods, then the outcome came down to a shootout.

Coopersville had a 5-4 edge in goals in the shootout to claim the victory. The Broncos now advance to play Reeths-Puffer in Saturday’s district championship game.

Fruitport, which had a 14-6 edge in shots on goal, finished the season with a 13-8 record. The Trojans won the O-K Black Conference championship in the regular season.
