The Muskegon Lumberjacks scored three unanswered goals to erase a two-goal deficit and defeat the Des Moines Buccaneers 3-2 Saturday at the Buccaneer Arena.

Jachym Kondelik scored the game-winning goal for the Lumberjacks with 2:39 remaining in regulation.

The Lumberjacks improved to 1-1 on the season, good for two points in the USHL’s Eastern Conference standings.

Muskegon will return home on Friday for its home opener against the defending Clark Cup Champion Chicago Steel. Face-off is slated for 7:15 p.m.

The game was scoreless after the first period.

The Buccaneer opened the scoring at the 11:01 mark of the second period on a goal from Nicolas Werbik.

Des Moines increased its lead to 2-0 with a goal by Nicolaus Appendino at the 14:55 mark of the second period.

The Lumberjacks finally ended their early scoring drought with 18 seconds remaining in the second period on a goal from Anthony Del Gaizo to cut Muskegon’s deficit to 2-1 after two stanzas.

Muskegon tied the game 2-2 on a goal from Monte Graham at the 1:41 mark of the third period.

Kondelik gave the Lumberjacks the lead at the 17:21 mark of the third period.

Adam Brizgala stopped 29 of 31 Buccaneer shots to pick up the win in net for Muskegon.

Des Moines outshot the Lumberjacks by a 31-25 margin.
