Reeths-Puffer’s Karina VanDuinen shot a round of 72 on Friday to take the first-round lead in the individual competition at the Division 2 state golf finals at Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek.

She had a two-stroke lead headed into Saturday’s final round. Another good day could give VanDuinen her second individual state title in three years. She also took top honors in the state as a freshman in 2015.

The entire Reeths-Puffer squad had a good day, shooting a collective score of 339 for third place in the team competition.

The Rockets head into Saturday’s final round 12 shots behind first-place Forest Hills Central and seven behind second-place Birmingham Seaholm.

Avery Howard had the second-best round for the Rockets with a score of 75, Karlee Hallberg shot a 91, Emma Veihl shot a 95 and Abby Fansler turned in a 96.
