The Grand Haven hockey team gave up three power play goals on Friday and lost 3-2 in overtime to Byron Center in its season opener.

Byron Center opened the scoring with a power play goal in the first period.

The Buccaneers tied the score 1-1 with a shorthanded goal by Trevor Kalis early in the second period.

Grand Haven pulled ahead later in the second when Ethan Pennington tipped in the puck, with assists from Kyle Eveland and Jake Johnson.

Byron Center scored in the third period to tie the game, then clinched the victory with another tally about halfway through the overtime period.

Grand Haven will host Mattawan on Saturday.
