The Muskegon Lumberjacks failed to maintain an early three-goal lead on Saturday night before falling to Sioux Falls 7-4 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

Muskegon, which is now 4-8-2 on the season, jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period before allowing seven of the contest’s final eight goals.

The Lumberjacks will finish their three-game road trip on Wednesday night against the Youngstown Phantoms. Puck drop is slated for 8:05 p.m.

Bray Crowder (3:33), Wyatt Bongiovanni (14:36) and Vincent de Mey (18:03) each notched a first period goal to give the Lumberjacks their 3-0 advantage through the first stanza.

The Stampede responded in the second period of four unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead heading into the third period.

Sioux Falls’ Jack St. Ivany (1:45), Matt Gould (1:57), Kevin Conley (11:26) and Artem Ivanyuzhenkov (15:20) each scored for the Stampede in the second period.

Krill Panyukov added a fifth straight goal for the Stampede at the 2:49 mark of the third period to give Sioux Falls a 5-3 advantage.

The Lumberjacks cut their deficit to 5-4 at the 6:31 mark of the third on a goal from Matej Pekar.

The Stampede closed the scoring with goals from Nolan Walker and Mikhail Berdin to give Sioux Falls a 7-4 win.

The Lumberjacks outshot Sioux Falls by a 36-31 margin despite the loss.

Muskegon’s goaltender Adam Brizgala stopped 20 of 24 shots while Keegan Karki stopped four shots in relief.
