The Kent City boys basketball team needed overtime on Tuesday night to defeat Coopersville 50-48 in their season opener.

The Eagles led 20-17 at the half, but Coopersville outscored the Eagles by a 16-9 margin in the third quarter to take a 33-29 lead into the fourth quarter.

Kent City went on a 13-9 fourth quarter run to tie the game at 42-42 to force overtime before outscoring the Broncos 8-6 in the extra stanza.

Sophomore Eli Carlson led the Eagles with 22 points while Benny Geers added 12.

FRUITPORT 54, HOLTON 28 – The Trojans were led by Cam Oleen with 22 points in both team’s season openers. Fruitport played stingy defense in the first half and took a 27-11 lead into the halftime break. The Red Devils were led by Dalton Giddings with eight points.

MONTAGUE 69, FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN 27 – The Wildcats jumped out to a 19-5 lead after one quarter and led 41-12 at halftime. Kenyan Johnston paced Montague with 27 points, while Hunter Mosher added 14 points and seven rebounds. The Wildcats were also led by Luke Marsh with seven rebounds and Peyton Burton with six assists.

RAVENNA 52, WALKERVILLE 32 – The Bulldogs used a 16-4 second quarter run to defeat Walkerville in their season opener. Ravenna trailed 11-5 after the first quarter, led 21-15 at halftime and had a 36-19 advantage heading into the fourth. Jack Emery led the Bulldogs with 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Josh Cox added 12 points and four steals. Ravenna’s Anthony Korson chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.

HART 47, WHITE CLOUD 34 – The Pirates pitched a shutout in the first quarter and finished strong in the fourth quarter to hold off a comeback from White Cloud. Hart led 15-0 after the first quarter and 26-12 at halftime. White Cloud cut its deficit to 29-25 heading into the final stanza, but the Pirates storm back with a 18-9 run in the fourth. Dustin Klotz recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 steals for the Pirates, while Alec Kempker recorded a double-double of his own with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 53, BALDWIN 37- The Spartans led throughout in their season opener Tuesday night over Baldwin. MCC (1-0) was led by seniors Tyler Bromely and Nate Nummerdor with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Ty Sniegowski ran the offense well, racking up eight points and seven assists. Jeffery Carrier was a force on the boards for the Spartans grabbing 16, while adding six points and six assists.

GRANDVILLE CALVIN CHRISTIAN 66, WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 45 – The Warriors led 16-14 after the first quarter, trailed 31-29 at halftime and had a 48-40 deficit through three stanzas. Grandville Calvin Christian closed the contest with a 18-5 fourth quarter run. Tyler Vanbeek led WMC with 15 points while Nolan Fairfield added nine.
