The Western Michigan Christian girls basketball team opened up its Lakes 8 Conference schedule with an exciting 39-37 victory over Manistee on Friday night.

The Warriors led by three points late in the game, then Maddi Heiss hit a free throw to extend the lead to four. Manistee hit another bucket but then ran out of time.

Aubrey Goorman had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors, who improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Anna Sytsema contributed 12 points and nine rebounds.

NON-LEAGUE

MUSKEGON 62, ROCKFORD 37 – Daz’sha Day scored 21 points to lead the Big Reds. After only leading 31-28, the Big Reds outscored the Rams 31-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the victory. Muskegon (2-1) also got 10 points apiece from Diynasti Dowell and Brianna Alexander. Dowell added seven rebounds.

GRAND HAVEN 46, MONA SHORES 34 – The Bucs held Mona Shores to just four points in the fourth quarter and pulled out the non-league win. Alli Keyser hit five 3-pointers on the night for the Bucs and finished with 19 points while Esther Byington scored 10 points. Mona Shores was led by Nia Miskel with 11 points and Julia Tierman with nine. Megan DeLong dished our four assists and Veronica Kastelic had six rebounds for the Sailors.

SPRING LAKE 45, FRUITPORT 15 – Abbi Perkins had 11 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lakers to a runaway victory. Spring Lake led 12-3 after the first quarter, 27-7 at the half, and 36-13 after the third. Madeline Zenas added eight points for Spring Lake while Jenna Core had six points and six rebounds.

LUDINGTON 52, ORCHARD VIEW 8 – MacKenzie Howe led Ludington with 18 points and Lindsey Holmes added nine. Ludington was up 32-2 at halftime and Orchard View could only add six more points the rest of the way. Ludington is now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Lakes 8 Conference play.
