The Spring Lake boys basketball team withstood losing a big lead and trailing late in the fourth quarter, holding on for a 50-49 victory against Reeths-Puffer on Friday night in non-league action.

The Lakers led 21-10 after the first quarter and 35-26 at the half, before a comeback from Reeths-Puffer trimmed the Laker lead to 43-40 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Rockets overcame the early deficit and led 49-45 with a few minutes to go in regulation, but Spring Lake scored the game’s last five points and withstood multiple shot attempts by the Rockets during the closing seconds.

Sam Johnson led the Lakers with 14 points and six rebounds, while Ben Arteaga and Griffin Lorimer each added eight points.

Kaleb Mitchelson had a team-high 14 points for the Rockets.

The Lakers are now 4-0 on the season while Reeths-Puffer drops its record to 3-2 on the campaign.
