Former Muskegon High School and Michigan State basketball standout Deyonta Davis made his first career start in the NBA on Wednesday night for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Davis played 24 minutes and scored eight points while grabbing four rebounds in the Grizzlies’ 105-99 victory over the New York Knicks.

The Grizzlies were missing two frontcourt players due to illness – Marc Gasol and Brandon Wright – which allowed Davis to step in and play big minutes for a struggling Memphis squad, which is 15-28 after Wednesday’s victory.

Since December 27, Davis has averaged 6.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while averaging 13.4 minutes.
