The Mona Shores boys basketball team broke open a tight game with a big fourth quarter to claim a 58-50 victory over Grand Rapids Union on Tuesday in an O-K Black Conference tilt.

Union led 11-9 after one quarter, and the game was tied 23-23 at halftime. The Sailors led by a point after three quarters, then sealed the victory with a 20-13 edge in the fourth.

Sophomore Jarvis Walker led Mona Shores with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists. James Gilbert added 15 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Justin Fox scored 16 points for the Red Hawks.

O-K BLACK

REETHS-PUFFER 59, FRUITPORT 41 – Reeths-Puffer and Fruitport played a tight game for three quarters before the Rockets pulled away. Reeths-Puffer (8-11) led 24-23 at the half and 35-32 after the third quarter before outscoring the Trojans 24-9 in the fourth.  Kaleb Mitchelson led the Rockets with 18 points while Emcee Williams added 10. Marcelo Conklin and Hunter Gannon each scored 10 points for Fruitport while Aric Stewart added nine.

CSAA

GRANT 54, FREMONT 46 – Fremont led most of the game, but Grant pulled ahead with four minutes left and stole the conference victory. The Packers were hurt by 32 percent shooting and 21 turnovers. Logan Karnemaat had 23 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks for Fremont, which fell to 13-4 overall and 10-3 in conference play. The Packers remain tied for first place with Big Rapids in the CSAA Gold.

NON-LEAGUE

WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 60, GRAND RIVER PREP 49 – Hayden Hubers had 20 points and eight rebounds while Tyler VanBeek added 15 points and nine boards for WMC, which improved to 10-7 on the season. The Warriors led 22-21 at halftime, then gradually pulled away in the second half. Brandon Fles piled up eight points, eight rebounds and six assists for WMC.

WELLSPRING PREP 79, FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN 60 – The Eagles came out flat, trailing 21-9 after one quarter and 47-26 at halftime, and never recovered. Ben Zelenka led Fruitport Calvary with 26 points while Zach Zehr scored 16.
