The Fremont girls basketball team launched its tournament effort in style on Monday with a 53-16 win over Belding in a Class B district quarterfinal game on its home court.

The Packers jumped out to a 12-2 lead after one quarter, led 25-7 at halftime and cruised from there.

Paige Vandenberg led a balanced Fremont scoring attack with 10 points. Natalie Jamieson added eight while five other players scored six points.

Anna Patenge snared 11 rebounds and had four blocks for Fremont while Bre Harris added five steals and four assists.

The Packers will host Sparta at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the district semifinals.
