The Muskegon Lumberjacks’ three-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday with a 5-3 road loss to the Des Moines Buccanneers.

The Jacks squandered two leads in the contest, and were finished off by a bad third period.

Vincent de Mey gave Muskegon a one-goal lead in the first period, before Des Moines’ CJ Walker found the net, leaving the score tied 1-1 after the first period.

The Jacks went back up 3-1 following second-period tallies by Jachym Kondelik and de Mey. But Des Moines answered again, this time with goals from Nicolas Worbik and Brian Halonen, and the score was 3-3 at the second intermission.

Des Moines iced the comeback victory in the third period with goals from Yerbik and Julian Napravnik. The Buccanneers dominated the final 20 minutes offensively, outshooting the Jacks 13-7.

Des Moines goalie Roman Durny entered the game in the second period and stopped all 15 shots he faced to gain the win.

Muskegon goalie Keegan Karki stopped 30 of 35 shots.

The Lumberjacks are now 22-18-2. They are tied with Dubuque for second place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference with 46 points. Team USA and Youngstown are tied for first with 49 points.

The Jacks will return home to host Sioux City on Friday and Saturday at L.C. Walker Arena. Puck drop is 7:15 p.m. both nights.
