The Muskegon boys basketball team found themselves in a strange position against host Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills on Tuesday night.

The Big Reds finished the first quarter behind 17-7 but managed to pull together to top the Knights 74-62 in O-K Black boys hoops action.

The Big Reds (11-3, 8-0) turned their efforts around in the second quarter, scoring 26 points and managed to cut the deficit to 40-34 by halftime. Muskegon responded after the break and outscored the Knights 21-7 in the third quarter to take a 54-47 lead.

Eonte Tornes erupted in the second half for Muskegon and scored 18 of his team-high 23 points while Willie Shanks Jr. scored 10 of his 22 points in the third quarter. Tornes and Shanks combined for 20 of the Big Reds 21 total points in the third.

Vern Nash finished with 11 points and Edriese Jenkins chipped in eight points for Muskegon. Shanks totaled 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks while Billie Roberts pulled down seven rebounds.

GRAND RAPIDS UNION 62, REETHS PUFFER 52 A slow offensive first half snapped the Rockets’ three-game win streak as they fell behind 17-11 after the first quarter and trailed 32-20 at halftime. Emcee Williams led the Rockets (7-8) with 13 points while Josh Jordan added 11.

MONA SHORES 58, FRUITPORT 27 – The Sailors outscored the Trojans 43-11 in the first half en route to an easy O-K Black victory on Tuesday night. Jarvis Walker led the Sailors (6-8, 3-4) with 20 points while grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out six assists. Kolbe Trovinger added 11 points and Davarious Carter scored nine points for the Sailors.
