The Fruitport Calvary Christian girl’s basketball team ran into a familiar opponent on Thursday in the Class D regional finals, and met a familiar fate.

The Eagles ended another great season with a disappointing 37-20 loss to Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart at Big Rapids Crossroads High School.

It was Fruitport Calvary’s fifth loss to Sacred Heart in regionals in five years. The Eagles, who sported a lineup filled with talented but inexperienced underclassmen this season, finished with a 20-4 record.

Fruitport Calvary played strong defense in the first half and went to the locker room with a 12-11 lead. But Sacred Hart had a 21-14 lead by the end of the third quarter and finished the game with a 14-2 run.

Brionna Johnson led the Eagles with eight points and 13 rebounds. Lizzie Cammenga added eight points for Fruitport Calvary.
