The Muskegon Lumberjacks did something on Saturday that they haven’t done in quite a while – completed a weekend sweep.

The Jacks jumped out to an early lead and grabbed a 5-2 victory over the host Madison Capitols to complete their first Friday-Saturday sweep since Jan. 12-13.

Muskegon, now 30-22-2 on the season, cut its magic number for making the playoffs to four points. The Jacks can clinch a USHL postseason spot with two victories in their last six games.

The Jacks will play their final two home games of the regular season next Friday and Saturday against the Omaha Lancers.

The Lumberjacks took a 3-0 lead with first-period goals from Jachym Kondelik, Mikael Hakkarainen and Monte Graham.

They made it 4-0 early in the third period on Anthony Del Gaizo’s league-leading 38th goal of the season.

Madison followed with a pair of goals by Mick Messner and Alec Broetzman to narrow the score to 4-2 with about a minute and a half left in the game.

The Jacks put the finishing touches on the win with a goal by Graham at the 18:53 mark of the third period.

Vincent de Mey had two assists for the Lumberjacks.

Muskegon outshot Madison 32-23. Zach Borgiel got the win in goal.
