The Spring Lake softball team opened the season with a doubleheader sweep over Montague on Wednesday in non-league action.

The Lakers won the opening game by a 10-2 margin, then blanked Montague 10-0 in the nightcap.

Madelyn Nelson paced Spring Lake in Game 1 with three hits and 2 RBIs, while Linsey Paggeot and Lauren Somers added two hits.

Spring Lake’s Leah Vaughan picked up the victory allowing four hits while striking out eight batters.

The Wildcats were led by Bailey Belinger, who hit a home run.

In Game 2, the Lakers were led by Lauren Hellman with three doubles and three runs scored while Nelson added three hits.

Lauren Somers pitched the win for Spring Lake, allowing two hits and striking out five batters.

Spring Lake is now 2-0 on the season while Montague fell to 0-2.
