Freshman pitcher Ethan Prins tossed a three-hit shutout to lead the Grand Haven baseball team to a 3-0 victory over East Kentwood in an O-K Red game on Thursday.

Owen Krizan and Ryan Mattson each had two hits for the Bucs while Alex Kapala and Connor Worthington each recorded one.

Grand Haven improved to 5-4 on the season.

REETHS-PUFFER 7, GRAND RAPIDS UNION 0 – Rocket pitcher Jarrett Wall pitched a gem, scattering two hits and striking out 15 in 6 2/3 innings.

Wall, Carson Aerts, Kobe Schalk, Jason Ledford, Spencer Fredricks and Ryan Aebig were offensive leaders for Reeths-Puffer.

LUDINGTON 17-2, WHITEHALL 7-9 – Ludington won the first game on the non-league doubleheader. Nathan Lange got the win on the mound. Garrett Meeker paced the Orioles at the plate with three hits while Sam Bandstra added two. Haddan Young had a pair of hits for Whitehall.

Whitehall got even in Game 2. Derek McCollum was the winning pitcher, while Tom Balaskovitz and Kayleb Venema each had two hits for the Vikings. Garrett Meeker and Calvin Irelan both had two hits for Ludington.

HART 13-23, MANISTEE CATHOLIC 1-0 – Rece Schlukebir, Matt Robbins and Braeden Carskadon each had two hits for Hart in Game 1. Robbins got the win on the mound, striking out 10 in four innings of work.

In Game 2, Alex Kempker had three hits, including two home runs, and seven RBIs. Jayden VanderZwagg added two hits, two stolen bases and knocked in three runs.

SOFTBALL

MASON COUNTY EASTERN 28-14, PENTWATER 10-11 – The Falcons dropped both games of the West Michigan D League doubleheader. In Game 1, Pentwater pitcher Mikalyn Kenney struck out 10 batters in a losing effort. Kenney also led the Falcons at the plate with two hits.

Jordyn Miller pitched game 2 for the Falcons. She tallied a strikeout and four walks. Cienna Cluchey paced the Falcon hitters with a double.

SOCCER

HART 1, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 1 – Mason County Central scored to take an early lead, then the Pirates got the game-tying tally from Amanda Galindo near the end of the first half. Elayna Dodson got the assist.

Deelexis Brewer was outstanding in goal for Hart, stopping 14 shots.
