The West Michigan Whitecaps returned to the field on Wednesday for a doubleheader, after rain caused Tuesday’s game to be postponed.

Returning to offense wasn’t easy for West Michigan as they were no-hit in a Game 1 4-0 defeat before losing 6-3 in Game 2.

Lake County pitchers Francisco Perez and James Karinchak combined to no-hit West Michigan in Game 1. Perez lasted 6 and 1/3 innings before Karinchak took the mound to finish the last two outs. Perez struck out four while walking six.

For West Michigan, starter Garett King took the loss in Game 1, allowing four runs on seven hits in five innings.

In Game 2, Luke Burch led the Whitecap offense with two hits, while Brady Policelli had two RBIs.

On the mound, Elvin Rodriguez took the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 3 and 2/3 innings.

West Michigan is now 11-6 on the season, and a half-game behind Lansing for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

The Whitecaps will conclude their series at Lake County with a noon start on Thursday.
