Rough starting pitching and sloppy defense lets down West Michigan

After splitting the first two games of the series, West Michigan fell 10-5 at Peoria on Thursday night.

Starter Matt Manning lasted only two innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits while walking four.

The West Michigan defense finished with two errors on the night, helping reliever Dylan Stock give up four unearned runs in two innings.

Offensively, Ignacio Valdez led the Whitecaps with two RBIs which came on a home run in the fourth inning. Reynaldo Rivera also had a solo home run in the game.

West Michigan falls to 15-11 on the year and is tied with Bowling Green for second place in the Midwest League Eastern Division, two and a half games behind Lansing.

The Whitecaps will next travel to Cedar Rapids to begin a three game series at 7:35 p.m. on Friday.
