The Shelby baseball team kept its season alive with an exciting 8-7 victory over Ravenna in a Division 3 pre-district game on Wednesday.

The Tigers took a 5-1 lead with five runs in the fourth inning and never trailed after that. Ravenna kept fighting back and pulled within one run in the seventh, but Shelby relief pitcher Matt Felt struck out the last batter with the tying run on base to ice the victory.

Simon Payne had three hits for Shelby while Thomas Carey added two. Payne was also the winning pitcher. Jared Broton, Brandon Reading and Nick Leiffers each had two hits for Ravenna.

Shelby, now 15-12, will face Hesperia in district semifinals at noon on Saturday.

OAKRIDGE 7, GR WEST CATHOLIC 3 – West Catholic led 3-1 headed into the seventh inning, but an inside-the-park homer by Austin Fairchild scored two runs and tied the game. Oakridge wrapped up the victory with a four-run eighth inning, sparked by RBI singles by Luke Layman and Jaxon Fri.

Ethan Miller was the winning pitcher for Oakridge.

WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 5, HOLLAND 3 – Tyler VanBeek, Jamo Goorman, Brant Zeerip, Michael Kamps, Cole Crabtree, Nick Moser and Jake Moser all had good games at the plate for the Warriors in their regular-season finale.

Zeerip, Jaxon Deur and Nathan VanderWeide combined on the mound to shut down the Dutch.
