The North Muskegon girls soccer team had a great second half on Wednesday and won a regional championship in the process.

Now the Norse are win away from playing for a state championship.

North Muskegon played Elk Rapids to a scoreless tie in the first half, then broke loose late in the second half and posted a 3-0 victory in the Division 4 regional finals at Cadillac High School.

Sophie Mueller broke the stalemate with a pair of goals with about 15 and 10 minutes left in the game. She was assisted by Hope Johnson on her first goal and Grace Berends on her second. Johnson put the icing on the victory with North Muskegon’s third goal, assisted by Kendal Hoppa.

Goalkeeper Abby Grevel posted the shutout for North Muskegon, which is now a perfect 21-0 on the season.  All but one of the Norse victories have been by shutout.

The Norse now advance to the Division 4 state semifinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Comstock Park High School. The Michigan High School Athletic Association has yet to identify their opponent.
