The West Michigan Whitecaps opened the second half of their season on Friday night with a 5-3 road victory over Fort Wayne.

Jose Azocar led the Whitecaps with three hits on the night while Reynaldo Rivera added two hits and two RBIs. Colby Bortles also had two RBIs for West Michigan.

Starting pitcher Elvin Rodriguez picked up his fifth win of the season, allowing one run on seven hits, while also striking out five in seven innings of work.

The Whitecaps are now 37-34 overall on the year.

The two teams will continue their series on Saturday night with first pitch schedule for 7:05 p.m.
