The West Michigan Whitecaps shutout South Bend on Monday night 3-0, making it the second straight shutout victory and fourth straight win overall for the Whitecaps.

Colby Bortles brought home Joey Morgan with a double in the second inning to begin the scoring on Monday night, giving the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, the Whitecaps extended their lead when Dylan Rosa tripled home Morgan before scoring on a Luke Sherley single.

Rosa and Morgan each led the Whitecaps with two hits each while Bortles, Rosa, and Sherley all had an RBI.

Starting pitcher Wilkel Hernandez picked up his first win of the season, allowing only one hit and striking out six in five innings of work. Will Vest picked up his fifth save of the year, striking out two batters in one inning of work.

The Whitecaps are now 53-53 on the year and 17-19 in the second half, four and a half games behind Bowling Green for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division second half standings.

On Tuesday, the Whitecaps will wrap up their series with South Bend with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
