The West Michigan Whitecaps scored two runs in the ninth inning on Friday night to leave Great Lakes with a 2-0 series ending victory.

With the score 0-0 in the ninth, Dylan Rosa tripled to center field to score Garrett McCain, giving the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead. Rosa then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Pearce.

The Whitecaps offense had seven hits in total including two hits by Luke Sherley and Rosa.

Starting pitcher Brandon Bass tossed seven innings for the Whitecaps, allowing just one hit while striking out five and walking two. Reliever Clate Schmidt picked up his eighth win of the year, allowing one hit and walking one while also striking out two in one inning of work.

Billy Lescher picked up his third save of the season pitching a clean ninth inning.

The Whitecaps are now 56-54 overall on the year and 20-20 in the second half, four and a half games behind first place Bowling Green in the Midwest League Eastern Division second half standings.

On Saturday, the Whitecaps will return home to host Dayton in game one of a three game series.
