The Grand Haven Volleyball team nearly captured the “Grand Haven End of Summer Bash” it hosted on Wednesday. The Bucs fell to Lakeview in the championship match, 25-20 and 25-22.

Grand Haven reached the finals with a three-set win over Hamilton (25-10, 19-25, 15-6) in the semifinals and also went 3-0 in pool-play. The Bucs topped North Muskegon, Zeeland East and Churchill.

Ashley Slater led Grand Haven with 35 kills and nine aces on the day. Mackenzie Gross totaled 28 kills, 13 digs and nine aces.

Ashlyn Hall led the Bucs with 26 digs while Baby Hang had 24.

FRUITPORT 3-3, GRAND RAPIDS UNION 0, KENOWA HILLS 0 – The Trojans picked up a pair of straight-set victories in an O-K Black conference tri on Wednesday. Fruitport is now 12-4 (2-0) on the season. Sydney Bol had a team-high 14 kills to go with 15 digs. Trinity Busschar led the way with 19 digs. Jordyn Carlyle totaled 16 digs, 11 kills and 10 assists. Kailey Carmean served up 52 assists along with 13 digs.

MONA SHORES 1-3, JENISON 3, MUSKEGON 0 – The Sailors split a pair of conference matches on Wednesday. The Sailors fell to Jenison in four sets, but won in three sets against the Big Reds. Emma Lynn led the Sailors with 20 kills, 20 digs and five aces. Suriya VanderOord toatled 37 digs, Megan Delong had 39 assits and Brooke LeRoux had 12 kills and four aces.

ORCHARD VIEW 3, NEWAYGO 0 – Orchard View (3-10-1) breezed past Newaygo in a non-conference match Wednesday. The Cardinals won by scores of 25-20, 25-10 and 25-20. Lily Johnson led OV with 10 kills while Allie TenHove had nine. Larissa Stewart had 10 digs and Matisen Gaunt finished with seven. Cassidee White had 23 assists.

HESPERIA 3, WHITE CLOUD 2 – The Panthers won a back and forth CSAA battle with White Cloud on Wednesday. Hesperia, now 10-4 (2-0) on the season, won the opening set 25-22, lost the second 23-25, won the third 25-22 and lost the fourth 14-25. The Panthers regrouped in the fifth and final set to win 17-15. Emily Bayle stuffed the stat sheet for Hesperia with 26 digs, 15 kills, three aces and two blocks. Alyssa Miller added 12 digs and eight kills, while Kyra Sayer led with 16 assists. Sierra Cechura had 10 digs and Ally Bayle added eight kills.

ORCHARD VIEW 3, WELLSPRING PREP 1 (Tuesday) – The Cardinals battled back after a tough opening set to beat Wellspring Prep in non-conference action Tuesday. Wellspring Prep won the first set 25-16, but OV took the next three sets 25-19, 25-19 and 25-18. Lily Johnson had a team-high 14 kills. Allie TenHove had 10 kills. Cassidee White totaled 27 assists and three aces.

WHITEHALL 3, NORTH MUSKEGON 2 (Tuesday) – The Vikings and Norse battled through five close sets to open WMC play on Tuesday. Whitehall (10-2-2, 1-0) took the first two sets before North Muskegon won sets three and four. The Vikings took the deciding fifth set 16-14. Abby Seeger had 14 kills and 11 digs for Whitehall, while Gianna Megna had 23 digs. McKenna Helper had 20 digs and five kills. Rayne Thompson had nine digs and seven kills.
