A handful of area volleyball teams competed in the Fruitport Invitational on Saturday.

The host Trojans fared the best, picking up three wins on the day, but fell in the Gold Division semifinals to West Ottawa.

Fruitport (15-6) beat North Muskegon, Kingsley and Forest Hills Northern. The Trojans also lost to Gull Lake in pool play.

Kylie Oberlin led Fruitport with 43 kills. Trinity Busscher had a team-high 34 digs, while Kailey Carmean led the way in assists with 118. Rachel Paulsen added 31 digs and 25 kills.

WHITEHALL

The Vikings (11-3-4) picked up one win, tied twice and lost once at the Fruitport Invitational. Whitehall beat Mona Shores, lost Grant and settled for a 1-1 draw against both TC West and Forest Hills Northern.

Abby Seeger led the Vikings with 25 kills, 19 digs and six blocks. Gianna Menga had a team-high 28 digs. Jaden Mikkelson chipped in 65 assists and 13 digs.

MONA SHORES

The Sailors didn’t manage a win at the event, but did battle to two ties. Mona Shores (5-12-2) earned draws with TC West and Forest Hills Northern and lost to Whitehall and North Muskegon.

Emma Lynn led the Sailor attack with 37 kills and 33 digs. Suriya VanderOord led the team with 67 digs. Brooke LeRoux chipped in 19 kills, 28 digs and eight aces while Megan DeLong had 70 assists, 23 digs and five kills.

MONTAGUE

The Wildcats struggled to an 0-4 record on the day, with losses to Grant, Coopersville, West Ottawa and Mona Shores.

Reilly Murphy stuffed the stat sheet with 27 digs, 15 kills and six aces. Allison Hall led the team in kills with 16 and Maddy Wynn had a team-high 38 digs.
