The Ludington football team got past rival Mason County Central 28-21 on Friday night in the regular season finale for both teams.

Ludington, now 7-2, will wait for Sunday night to learn who it will play in the first round of the state playoffs next week. Mason County Central finished with a 1-8 record.

Austin Hofmann started the scoring off for the Spartans in the first quarter with a three-yard touchdown run, and MCC led 7-0.

Ludington’s Garrett Meeker ran one in from three yards out to tie the game 7-7.

Meeker scored again from the same distance in the second quarter and Ludington led 14-7 at halftime.

Meeker scored his third TD from three yards out in the third quarter to push the lead to 21-7. Then Hofmann broke loose for a 65-yard scoring run to cut the lead to just one touchdown at 21-14.

Meeker answered with 47-yard touchdown scamper and Ludington led 28-14 lead going into the fourth.

MCC’s Bruce Banks found the end zone in the fourth quarter to make the score 28-21, but the Orioles had a defensive stand at the end of the game to pull out the win.

Meeker led the Orioles with 150 yards on the ground and four touchdowns while Luke Fountain and Preston Keeley paced the defense with 15 and 11 tackles, respectively.

Hofmann led the Spartans with 281 yards and two scores.
