The Spring Lake football team dropped its second O-K Blue game in a row Friday night.

The Lakers, now 5-2  overall and 3-2 in the conference, fell 35-12 to state power Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

A 21-0 first quarter deficit got Spring Lake off on the wrong foot, The Lakers trailed 28-3 at the half and 35-3 after three quarters.

Matt Beirman connected on a 29-yard field goal to get the Lakers on the board in the second quarter. The team registered a safety in the fourth, and Zach Keyser ran in an 8-yard score in the final stanza for the lone Spring Lake touchdown.

Keyser was 9-for-21 for 79 yards through the air and ran the ball 21 times for 53 yards. Mitch Payne led the team in rushing with 57 yards on 10 carries.

Gavin Albran totaled eight tackles for the Lakers, while Blake Kelsey had a sack and a forced fumble.

Spring Lake will try again to get its sixth win and earn a playoff berth net Friday against Allendale.
