North Muskegon senior standout TJ McKenzie reached the 1,000-point mark in his career in the Norsemen’s 69-42 non-league victory over Western Michigan Christian on Tuesday.
McKenzie poured in 23 points and had four rebounds and three steals. Eric Rypstra added 15 points and four assists and DeShary Warren chipped in 11 points, three steals, and three assists.
Owen Varnado and Zack Butkis scored eight and seven points for WMC, respectively.
North Muskegon is now 11-1 on the season while the Warriors fell to 6-6.
O-K RED
GRAND HAVEN 65, CALEDONIA 52 – The Bucs trailed after the first quarter 14-12, but gradually pulled away over the course of the game.
Casey Constant had a team-high 16 points for the Bucs. Bryce Taylor added 10.
Grand Haven improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
CSAA
TRI-COUNTY 85, HOLTON 77 – The Holton boys attempted an impressive comeback, but fell just short.
Trailing by 20 at one point in the third quarter, the Red Devils were able to battle back and bring the score to within three. But Tri-County hit clutch free throws late in the game to capture the win.
Nate Slowik had 29 points to lead the way for the Red Devils. Aaron Herron contributed 20 points, and Derek Pouch chipped in 16.
The Red Devils fell to 5-7 on the season.
ALLIANCE LEAGUE
WEST MICHIGAN AVIATION ACADEMY 47, FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN 34 – Fruitport Calvary trailed 15-6 after the first quarter and 27-14 at halftime. The Eagles were able to narrow their deficit in the second quarter, but after three straight three-pointers for Aviation, the margin was quickly regained.
Nik Kurth was the difference maker for Aviation Academy with 19 points.
Joe McFarren led the Eagles with 14 points while Ben Zelanka contributed 10.
The Eagles fell to 4-6 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
NON-LEAGUE
FREMONT 51, WHITEHALL 37 – Fremont only led by two points after one quarter and one point at halftime, but took control with a 23-6 advantage in the third quarter, when Logan Karnamaat scored 10 of his 16 points.
Calvin Miller added 10 points for Fremont, and Carter Moon dished out five assists to go along with a great defensive performance. Ethan McKenzie had a solid performance for the Vikings, scoring a game-high 20 points.
Fremont improved to 10-1 on the season.
RAVENNA 65, ZION CHRISTIAN 22 – Jacob May paced the Bulldogs with 13 points while 10 other players scored in the easy non-conference victory.
Hunter Funk led the Ravenna rebounders with nine, Josh VanderWoude had nine assists and Anthony Korson turned in five blocks.
The Bulldogs took control by racing to a 19-2 lead after one quarter.
WEST MICHIGAN D
PENTWATER 60, BALDWIN 50 – Glenn Miller scored 17 points and had five assists, five steals and three rebounds for Pentwater in the conference victory.
Khole Hoffman and Austin Hoffman each added 14 points for the Falcons, who improved to 7-5 overall and 6-4 in the league.
