The Western Michigan Christian basketball team used lock-down defense to snag a 33-31 victory over Ludington on Friday in a Lakes 8 Conference matchup.

WMC’s defense held Ludington to 10 points in the first half, and the Warriors had a 17-10 lead at the break.

Ludington had the ball with just under 20 seconds to go in the fourth quarter, trailing by two points. Nate Lange’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer was just short and WMC took the victory.

Kellen Mitchell scored nine points and Nick Mocker added seven for WMC. Josh Laman had 14 points for the Orioles.

LAKES 8

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS 65, ORCHARD VIEW 51 – The Tigers pulled ahead with a 17-7 edge in the second quarter and led 39-23 at halftime. OV got back in the game with a 19-9 edge in the third, but Muskegon Heights nailed down the win with a 17-9 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Kevon Washington had a huge night for the Tigers, tossing in 36 points, including eight 3-pointers. Lamonte Townsend added 14 points and 11 rebounds while Ernest Helms also grabbed 11 boards.

Ke’ontae Barnes poured in 27 points, including five triples, for Orchard View. Edmari Mitchell added eight points and Davion Lane snagged 10 rebounds.

League-leading Muskegon Heights is now 7-7 overall and 6-1 in conference play.

MUSKEGON CATHOLIC 58, MANISTEE 45 – A 23-7 edge in the first quarter gave the Crusaders breathing room for the rest of the contest.

Jared Dugener paced the Crusaders with 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Andre Watson II had 10 points, five assists and five steals.

MCC is now 10-6 overall and 5-4 in conference play.

GIRLS

O-K RED

GRAND HAVEN 52, GRANDVILLE 26 – The Bucs gained control by outscoring the Bulldogs 9-0 in the first quarter and 18-8 in the third.

Alli Keyser led a balanced Grand Haven attack with 12 points, Kelly Olthof added 10, Jolee Houle had nine points and Esther Byington scored seven.

Grand Haven is now 14-2 overall and 7-2 in the O-K Red Conference.

O-K BLACK

REETHS-PUFFER 45, FRUITPORT 23 – The Rockets led buzzer-to-buzzer and grabbed a conference win.

The Rockets were led by Lauren Ross with 20 points, while Emily Caltagirone and Trina Lewis added eight points apiece.

Fruitport was paced by Sydney Bol and Emily Dirkse with nine and eight points, respectively. Ellie Fisher pulled down 11 rebounds.

CSAA 

GRANT 38, FREMONT 34 – The close conference game was decided at the free throw line.

Grant was 8-for-10 from the line in the fourth quarter and 10-for-12 in the game, while Fremont shot just four free throws the entire game.

Nicole Whan led Grant with 14 points, including six from the line. Calla Miller scored 14 points for Fremont while Paige Vandenberg had 10.

Fremont is now 10-6 overall and 8-4 in conference play.

WEST MICHIGAN D

PENTWATER 33, BIG RAPIDS CROSSROADS 16 – The Falcons pulled away after a quiet first quarter that only produced six total points.

Pentwater had a huge advantage on the boards, outrebounding Crossroads 44-24. Madi Wagner paced the Falcons with 12 points and 15 rebounds, her 11th double-double of the season.
