After losing quite a few close games this season, the Spring Lake boys basketball team came out on top 46-45 over Sparta on Monday in an O-K Blue Conference makeup game.

Spring Lake got the final points with a steal and layup from Sam Sheridan with under two minutes to go. The Lakers missed several free throws down the stretch, and Sparta missed its final three shots from the floor.

Lucas Lyyski led the Laker offense with 13 points while Zach Keyser had eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Lakers are now 5-14 overall and 2-9 in conference play.

O-K BLACK

KENOWA HILLS 58, MONA SHORES 47 – The Sailors dropped a conference game to Kenowa Hills on Saturday.

Mona Shores had balanced scoring. Da’Varius Carter led the way with 11 points, James Gilbert had nine and Jaylen Hopson added 11.

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

OAKRIDGE 53, MONTAGUE 43 – Montague jumped out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter, but the Eagles rebounded with a 16-7 edge in the second quarter and a 23-16 advantage in the third.

Oakridge sealed the league victory by sinking five of six free throw attempts down the stretch.

TJ Ruel paced the Eagles with 14 points, Tanner Karel added 12 and Austin Fairchild and CoCo Watson each scored nine. Koleman Wall and Peyton Young grabbed nine and eight rebounds, respectively.

FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN 61, ZION CHRISTIAN 43 – Zach Zehr led the Eagles with 22 points in the Friday night victory. Ben Zelenka added 18 points.

The Eagles led 16-14 after one quarter and 30-25 at halftime, then started pulling away with a 15-6 edge in the third quarter.

RAVENNA 54, HART 35 – Ravenna built a 30-25 lead at halftime, Hart fought back to make it 35-32 after the third quarter, but the Bulldogs pulled away with a 19-3 advantage in the fourth.

Calvin Schullo paced Ravenna with 17 points, including three triples, and seven rebounds. Jacob May also grabbed seven boards and Josh Vanderwoude has six assists.

NORTH MUSKEGON 81, WHITEHALL 53 – North Muskegon took control of the contest by hitting 14 three-pointers. The Norse built a 42-25 lead by halftime and cruised from there.

Eric Rypstra led the NM charge with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists. Jesse Cook added 19 rebounds and four assists, TJ McKenzie had 14 points and Deshari Warren contributed 11 points and eight assists.

Ethan McKenzie and Gavin Schaffer scored 17 and 12 points, respectively, for Whitehall.

The Norse improved to 17-1 overall and 12-1 in West Michigan Conference play. Whitehall dropped to 8-10 and 7-5.

NON-CONFERENCE

MUSKEGON CATHOLIC 67, ZION CHRISTIAN 41 – A 20-8 burst in the third quarter gave the Crusaders their winning advantage.

Jared Dugener had a well-rounded game for MCC with 14 points, six rebounds and three steals. Andre Watson II added 12 points and four assists.

GIRLS

SPRING LAKE 44, MONTAGUE 25 – The Lakers grabbed the non-league victory with a stingy defense, holding the Wildcats to 13 points in the first half and 12 in the second.

Spring Lake was paced by Jenna Core with 15 points. Madeline Zenas and Abbi Perkins each added eight.

MUSKEGON CATHOLIC 45, ZION CHRISTIAN 40 – The Crusaders trailed 24-17 at halftime, then retrieved the victory with a 10-5 edge in the third quarter and 18-11 advantage in the fourth.

Hannah Ladd scored 17 points for MCC. JaiLyn Johnson added 12 and McKenna Gentry scored eight.

MCC is now 3-12 on the season.
