Aya Johnson made quick work of her opponent Wednesday in the first round of match play in the 96th Women’s Amateur at Forest Akers Course at Michigan State University.
Johnson, from North Muskegon, closed out the match early with an 8 and 7 victory over Julie Massa, from Holt.
On Thursday in the round of 16, Johnson will take on No. 27 Sarah Johnson, a 2 and 1 winner over Carly Sainte-Onge, who finished sixth during stroke play.
Sarah Johnson is from Wixom and Sainte-Onge is from Marquette.
The Johnson vs. Johnson match tees off at 9:10 a.m. Thursday.
Aya Johnson had qualified in the 22nd position after shooting a 157 in the two stroke play rounds. Massa came in seeded No. 11.
