Adam Poel is taking his pitching talents to Grand Valley State University starting with the 2013-14 school year.

Poel, a 6-foot-3 right handed pitcher who played at Grand Haven High School, has verbally committed to the Laker program after a highly successful season at Muskegon Community College this past spring. He is expected to sign his letter of intent this fall.

Poel finished with a 7-4 record in 87 1/3 innings pitched. He posted a stellar 1.36 earned-run-average and struck out 80 batters. He appeared in 13 games for the Jayhawks. He was named Freshman of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and team Most Valuable Player for the Jayhawks.

Grand Valley is under the direction of first-year head coach Jaimie Detillion. Poel is the first pitcher to verbally commit to the program with Detillion as the head coach.

Geile off to Madonna

Fruitport graduate Breanna Geile will take her volleyball skills to Madonna University. She will join her sister, Samantha, and Ashley Hulbert, who transferred from Muskegon Community College. The Division 3 school in Livonia.
