Two area golfers are among the top 10 after one round of the 28th annual Randy Wise Junior Open golf tournament.

The 54-hole event, which began Tuesday, is being played at Warwick Hills in Grand Blanc. It is an American Junior Golf Association tournament.

In the boys event, Andrew VanAelst is tied for ninth after shooting a 3-over-park 75 in the opening round. Mona  Shores teammate Reed Hrynewich is tied for 25th with a 77. Hrynewich finished third last year.

On the girls side, Hailey Hrynewich shot a 79 and is tied for 10th. Other area competitors include Morgan Smith is tied for 17th with an 81 and North Muskegon’s Aya Johnson finished at 82 and is in 21st place.

Michael Howe, from Temecula, Calif., is atop the boys leaderboard at 70. The girls leader is Jessica Porvasnik, from Hinkley, Ohio, with a 72.

A total of 96 players – 72 boys and 24 girls – are entered in the tournament.
