The Muskegon Lumberjacks announced today that forward Conor Garland has committed to Penn State University starting with the 2015-16 season.,

Garland, a native of Scitiuate, Mass.,  was a third-round draft pick of the Jacks in the most recent USHL Futures Draft.

Penn State begins its varsity hockey program this fall.

Garland played the 2011-12 season with the Boston Jr. Bruins of the Tier III Empire Junior Hockey League. He scored 42 goals and finished with 94 points to lead the team. Overall in league scoring, he finished third.

Penn State begins play this fall as a Division I Varsity program for the first time since 1946.  They will join the Big Ten in 2013-14 when the conference adds the sport.
