The Batters overcame a six-run deficit in the first inning and won the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival softball tournament on Friday.

The Batters also won the title a year ago.

This time around, The Batters won seven of eight games, including a 14-7 victory over the Bucketheads in the final game at Mulligan’s Hollow in Grand Haven.

The three-day tournament featured nine Coast Guard softball teams. Each team was guaranteed six games in pool play on Wednesday and Thursday. The top teams moved on to the semifinals.

On Thursday night, The Batters defeated Grand Haven in a semifinal contest. On Friday morning, the Bucketheads defeated the Puddle Pirates 22-12.

In the final game, the Bucketsheads grabbed a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a pair of three-run homers, but The Batters chipped away until taking the lead for good in the middle innings.
