The Fruitport Trojans were up to the challenge on Thursday in a Lakes 8 soccer match.
The Trojans escaped with a 2-1 victory over the Ludington Orioles.
“It was nice to have a physical and challenging game from Ludington as we prepare for our rivalry games next week,” Fruitport coach Greg Kobylak said.
Colin Sparks took a pass from Nick Carrier through traffic and fired a 20-yard shot into the net. That goal came with just under 7 minutes left in the opening half.
Taylor McLaughlin took a pass from Matt Escalante and scored the Trojans’ second goal. McLaughlin beat the sweeper and the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the net from a tight angle with 29:34 remaining.
Ludington pulled to within a goal when Andrew Kandelac scored.
Fruitport (8-3-2) had an 8-5 advantage in shots.
