Dominating defense and strong goaltending helped the Muskegon Lumberjacks defeat the host Sioux Falls Stampede Friday in Game 2 of the USHL Fall Classic.

Defenseman Ben Storm scored the game winner for Muskegon halfway through the second period and the defense kept the Stampede in check the rest of the way.

The Lumberjacks opened the scoring in the first period on a power-play goal by Ben Foster. Sioux Falls answered in the second period on Ryan Siipo’s goal.

Muskegon goalie Jordan Uhelski stopped 19-of-20 shots, while Chad McDonald (two assists) and Foster (goal, assist) sparked the offense. Rasmus Bengsston also had an assist for the Jacks, who outshot the Stampede 23-20.

Sioux City goaltender Jan Obernesser stopped 21-of -23 shots in the contest.

Muskegon will wrap up its 2012 USHL Fall Classic and preseason schedule Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Lincoln Stars. The season opener is set for Sept. 29 against the U.S. National Under-17 Developmental Team at 7 p.m.
