Tyler Brown, Drake Yarian and Austin Blaski each scored first-half goals as the Rocket gained a 3-0 lead at the intermission.
Daniel Sischo put the Big Reds on the scoreboard early in the second half. But Brad Macomber scored a final goalĀ for Puffer, which had a 12-5 advantage in shots.
Alec Mavis, Macomber and Blaski recorded assists for the Rockets.
Troy Gilmore made four saves in net for Puffer, while Andrew Acre had eight saves for the Big Reds.
