Fruitport advanced Tuesday night to the semifinal round of its Division 2 district tournament with a 5-0 victory over Coopersville.

The Trojans improve to 12-7-2 overall while the Broncos’ season ends at 6-12-1.

Against Coopersville, Fruitport got first-half goals from Kevin Rollenhagen, assisted by Dalton Mullenix, and Zach Gilson, assist to Matt Umstead, to lead 2-0 at the break.

In the second half, Ryan Craker, assisted by Taylor McLaughlin, and Collin Sparks picked up goals, with Alan Pekel’s penalty kick goal rounding out the scoring.

“It took (us) a little time to get used to the fast surface,” said Fruitport head coach Greg Kobylak, “but we found a way to play better as the game went along.  We will have to play better the next game if we want to achieve the goals we have set.”

The Trojans outshot Coopersville 19-3.

Trojan goalkeeper Loghan Stong finished with three saves, while Coopersville’s Jake Johnson nabbed 12 saves in the loss.

Fruitport moves on to face Kenowa Hills at 5 p.m. Thursday at Spring Lake.
