The Muskegon Community College women had a solid showing in Saturday’s Region XII Cross Country Championships.
The meet, which was run at Grand Woods Park in Lansing, included 13 teams. MCC finished fourth.
The Jayhawks, who came into the meet ranked No. 19 in the nation, were led by KT Truman, who finished in 10th place out of 80 runners.
“On the women’s side, we finished about where we thought,” MCC coach Dan Fishel said.
Jessica Sevarns, Meagan Lavin and Erica Douglas ran their fastest times of the season.
“Lexi Yost was pretty sick and toughed it out, but Jessica and Meagan really stepped it up in the top 5 to make up for it,” Fishel said. “That’s what a team is about.  Sometimes runners are not 100 percent, but other runners can step up to help their teammates.  KT and Kaytlynne Kerwin (Kent City HS) also ran very well leading the women’s team.
The Jayhawks will be making their first-ever team trip to the NJCAA national championships in 2 weeks. Samantha Zimmer qualified a year ago as an individual, but this time around, the team qualified.
That meet is at Rend Lake College in Ina, Ill. at the NJCAA national championships on Nov. 10.
