Newaygo’s girls cross country team had three runners finish in the top 10.

That was good enough to qualify for the Division 3 state finals meet after finishing second at the Division 3 regional at Allendale on Saturday.

The Lions finished with 82 points to place second behind team champion Calvin Christian.

Ravenna (142) placed sixth, Kent City (191) was seventh, Grant (195) placed eighth, Oakridge (222) finished 10th and Montague (295) finished in 12th place.

The top three teams and top 15 individuals who are not members of a state finals qualifying team advance to the state finals meet at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Nov. 3.

Newaygo’s Kathy Middaugh (19:11) led the Lions with a third-place finish and she was followed by teammates Hannah Rainey (19:33) in sixth place and Brittany Williams (19:58) in 10th.

Kent City’s Ashley Russo (18:50) finished second overall and also qualified for the state finals.
