The fourth time was the charm for Muskegon Catholic’s Aya Johnson.

After three straight top 10 finishes at the state finals, including losing medalist honors in a playoff as a sophomore, Johnson finally earned medalist honors on Saturday at the Division 4 state finals at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing.

Johnson, a North Muskegon senior who plays on the co-op team at Muskegon Catholic, needed a playoff to win medalist honors.

Johnson and Lansing Catholic Central’s Jacqueline Setas tied after two rounds with a score of 153.

A par on the first playoff hole earned Johnson medalist honors after firing rounds of 80 and 73.

Western Michigan Christian’s Abbie Alfree competed as an individual and finished with a two-round score of 203 after rounds of 104 and 99.
