Mason County Central’s Chase Barnett finished third overall to lead the Mason  County Central Spartans to a seventh-place finish at the Division 3 boys state cross country finals at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Saturday.

Mason County Central finished with 223 points, while Newaygo placed 23rd with 546 points.

Jackson Lumen Christi won the team championship with 129.

Barnett, earned all-state honors with his third-place finish in a time of 15:28.

His teammate Zac Benham (16:21) also finished in the top 30 to earn all-state honors by finishing in 25th place in a time of 16:21.

Jordan Johnson (73rd), Alex Myers (111th) and Austin Persoon (140th) completed the runners for MCC.

Newaygo was led by Max Smith (17:22), who placed 109th overall.

Darick Wilson (147th), Andrew Polasek (150th), Rivver Dunham (175th) and Dallas Miller (229th) rounded out the team scores for the Lions.

Kent City’s Will Wilson (16:15) also earned all-state status as he finished 16th overall.

Erie Mason’s Nick Raymond was the overall winner in a time of 15:05.
