Fruitport Calvary Christian used a big second quarter to top visiting Fremont Providence Christian 62-44.

The Eagles (2-1) used  an 11-0 scoring run and outscored Fremont 23-9 in the second quarter to take  a 38-25 halftime lead. Mark Carlson tallied 11 of his 16 points in the quarter.

Mike Warren made his mark in the first quarter for Calvary Christian scoring 12 of his game-high 25 points. Warren also grabbed 19 rebounds, six coming on the offensive end. He also made 8-of-9 from the free-throw line on the night.

“We were not playing good defense,” said Calvary Christian coach Jim Warren. “But they collapsed in the second quarter and gave us the lead the rest of the game.”

Drew Maine chipped in with seven assists, while Carlson finished with four assists and three steals for FCC.

Fremont Providence (1-2) was hurt early on by foul trouble and Daniel Geeting was limited to six points, well below his average.

The Storm was led by C.J. Miller with 15 points.
