East Kentwood stayed undefeated on Thursday night with a 52-48 victory over Grand Rapids Christian in the opening game of the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame Basketball Classic.

The game, played at Reeths-Puffer, was the opener of the two-day event.

Anthony Peterson and Jeffery Drake-Todd scored 11 points each to lead the Falcons (5-0). Jaylen Carter and Brent Kimbrel added seven points each.

Drake Harris, a two-sport standout who has commited to Michigan State University, led GR Christian with 23 points.

East Kentwood got off to a solid start, thanks in part to some shoddy play by GR Christian, and jumped out to a 15-3 lead. By halftime, the Falcons had a 28-21 lead.

Grand Rapids Christian,  led by Harris, a junior, battled back to tie the game at 30-all in the third quarter. However, two quick 3-pointers by Pearson and Drake-Todd pushed the Falcons back into a six-point lead.

East Kentwood returns to action on Friday night against the Muskegon Big Reds, which dropped a 54-53 decision to Westland John Glenn in Thursday’s nightcap.
