Fruitport wrestling coach Jack Nummerdor returns a handful of successful wrestlers from last year’s team.

That group is led by returning state qualifier Tommy Martinez, a junior who finished 41-13 last season. Other top returnees include Collin Butler, Cameron Butler, Dakota Gordon and Andrew Bunda.

Collin Butler is a junior who was a regional qualifier last season. He finished 36-19. Sophomore Cameron Butler also was a regional qualifier. He finished 39-13 as a freshman. Gordon is a senior who was a regional qualifier a year ago (26-4). Shoulder surgery could prevent his return this season.

Bunda, a sophomore, had a solid season as a freshman when he posted a 32-17 record.

Top newcomers include Chris Hendricks, Austin Fialek, Alex Foster, Gavin Taylor and Josh Brooks.

Hendricks, a junior transfer from Mona Shores, brings a big body to the Trojan lineup. Despite taking a couple of seasons off, Fialek, a junior, brings good technique to the mat.

“If we can fill some area, we will be a contender for conference and districts, Numerdor said. “It’s a big transition year. We have some good talent and potential . We just need to see it transferred onto the mat.”
