The Muskegon Community College Jayhawk wrestling team split its dual matches at the Lincoln Duals in Lincoln, Ill.

Rend Lake handed the Jayhawks their only dual loss of the season, 23-19. MCC came back to win the second match 26-12 over Lincoln.

“While the loss to Rend Lake is disappointing, spoiling an undefeated dual season, I’m still encouraged with the weekend’s results,” MCC coach Mark Brunger said. “We beat a tough Lincoln team by a large margin, our first win against them since I’ve been with the program.”

Brunger has been with MCC four years.

“The most important thing is preparing for the postseason,” Brunger said. “We are working toward peaking at the regional and national tournaments.”

Top MCC performances included Tyler Gibson at 125, Steven Ruppert at 141, Dillon Francisco at 165, Justin Johnson at 174, Riley Boomer at 174, Zach Johnston at 184, Tom Bolday at 197 and Brett Martin at 285.

Among Johnson’s victories was a major decision over No. 6-ranked Darnell Thomas of Lincoln.
