Cox, from Chelsea, scored three breakaway goals in a pair of road games last week in Dubuque and Green Bay. On Friday in Dubuque, Cox scored two shorthanded goals on breakaways.
“It is a great honor to get the award just like getting nominated as one of captains on the team, but reaching the ultimate goal of winning a championship is what I want to achieve the most,” Cox said. “I take a lot of pride in blocking shots (on the penalty kill) and being able to create scoring opportunities for my teammates, but it’s always nice to get involved in the offense on occasion.”
Cox leads the team in total points with 26 (11 goals and 15 assists) in 31 games played and also leads the Lumberjacks in assists.
Last season, he totaled 20 points (6 goals and 14 assists) in 57 games played with the Lumberjacks.
